  • The Live Literature Company is unique in fusing Theatre, Literature and the Humanities, in performance work of excellence.

    • We are a Performance based company which Val Doulton (pictured above) founded to communicate Classic and Contemporary work in the Arts, Literature and the Humanities, in a truly approachable way to the widest possible audience, without losing any of the complexity of the writer’s vision.
    • The working method is that of an Ensemble Company which Val leads and directs.  In all our work the philosophical concept that there is no division between the mind, body, emotions and spirit, is practiced and underpins the directing and all that we communicate to our audiences.
    • We are necessary and important to the U.K. and world wide, because the casting ethos of The Live Literature Company is dedicated to promoting Black and Asian and Inter-Cultural casting at the highest level of performance.  This casting concept can and does include Blind and Deaf performers working to this performance level.  There is also a special focus on promoting the work of women.
    • This exceptional casting mix represents the whole U.K. community as it is now,  so we are keeping pace with our ever changing society.
    • We are important in our dedication to sharing the British Cultural tradition with all citizens in the U.K., accessing British Culture over hundreds of years, and inspiring the reading of world wide literature.
    • Live Lit. also has a world wide remit in that we travel with our work to different parts of the world and therefore make British Culture part of the Global Phenomenon.
    • Our site-specific work shows the profound and lasting resonance of connecting the Arts to place.  – Staging Byron at Monserrate Palace, Sintra, two days after the 200th Anniversary of his visit there.  Staging the Brontes at Haworth, and Jane Austen at Bath.
    • Our Combined Arts productions show the beauty and success of fusing the spoken word, visual image, music and dance, in work of great substance.
    • Our children’s work introduces the speaking of Shakespeare and Poetry to the very young, so that they can experience the beauty of the English Language and have fun playing with language and linguistic expression.

As it says on our company card, we Bring Words to Life with Love and Laughter.
